Pappas Taps Nverzion for Automation Upgrades

Commercial television broadcasting group Pappas Telecasting Companies has chosen Nverzion solutions to fully automate 10 stations.

The stations include KMEG and KPTH, Sioux City, Iowa; KREN and KAZR in Reno, Nev.; WTWB in Greensboro, N.C.; KPTM and KXVO in Omaha, Neb.; KMPH and KFRE in Fresno, Calif.; and KPWB in Des Moines, Iowa. Pappas anticipates the integration for all 10 stations to be completed by Q2 2007.

Pappas' suite of applications includes Nverzion's NControl playlist, NGest record, and NPoint for segmenting clips. The installation also includes NBase (and a redundant NBase) database of video server clips and source tapes; NView, to act as an easy access database "window;" NTime, a time-based router event scheduler software package, EMC, an NConvert traffic interface, and Nverzion's NFire pathfire interface. The Nverzion solution controls Utah Scientific Routing Switcher, Omneon Video Servers and VizRT Branding Boxes.

Dale Scherbring, vice president and director of engineering for Pappas Telecasting Companies said, "The people we met with really understood how television stations run in the real world. They not only listened to our feedback on the solutions we needed, they went so far as to incorporate some of our suggestions into their updates. Yes, Nverzion offers a quality solution, but it was their staff and support that impressed us."

Pappas Telecasting Companies owns 27 stations, including market-leading Fox, WB, ABC, CBS, UPN, Azteca America, and MyNetworkTV affiliates, and operates four other stations pursuant to local marketing agreements.
