New research from Pacific Media Associates (PMA) indicates the new 58in XGA plasma professional model segment showed promising growth in the October data as unit sales grew six-fold and average street prices rose 12 percent compared with September 2007, for a 600 percent revenue increase. As a result, this one model segment was responsible for 6 percent of the October professional product revenue in the sample data.
The firm also revealed that professional flat-panel shipments rose sharply in 2007Q3, gaining 51 percent over 2007Q2 on a unit basis. The firm pointed to lodges and in-room viewing as sources of growth; shipments represented 54 percent of the total professional unit market share in the third quarter.
Another recent PMA report revealed that unit sales for rear-projection HDTVs in North America increased 27 percent in October over September’s figures — the highest unit sales since May 2007, but still less than half the sales in January 2007.
