On Command Video, a provider of in-room interactive entertainment for the hotel industry, has begun supplying HD feeds to some hotels under Hilton's Garden Inn brand. On Command's premium VOD system will begin by featuring five HD channels.
The Denver-based company distributes directly to the properties of about a hundred hotel chains located in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Spain. It also distributes TV content to cruise ships operating under the Royal Caribbean, Costa and Carnival brands.
"As television enters the new age of HD, it's important to understand what it means for hotels and their guests," said Tad Walden, On Command's senior vice president for programming, in a statement. Walden refers to HD's superior resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio as providing a "landscape picture" that his company says will make a big impression (in more ways than one) on guests at a growing number of select hotel properties.
