Omneon, Pro-Bel Collaborate in Server Control Project

Omneon and Pro-Bel have jointly developed a large scale storage and play-out system under the control of a single management system.

The project involved the coupling of Pro-Bel's Morpheus with Omneon's MediaGrid active storage and Omneon media server products. The combined system allows broadcasters to control flow of content from ingest with Omneon Spectrum or MediaDeck servers, to moving content in and from central storage, to playback to air operations.

"The Morpheus family of automation and media management products was designed to eliminate as much manual intervention as possible, with the philosophy that once content has entered the broadcast facility, the operation should be able to run itself", said Gordon Hadley, partner manager for Pro-Bel. "With its media-aware storage, the Omneon MediaGrid helps turn that philosophy into reality".

The combined system is in use now at Turner Entertainment Networks International in London, with 20 channels of play-out.

The new system is scalable to accommodate the needs of local, regional and international broadcasting operations.
