New TANDBERG TV platform puts advanced compression on ICE

The ICE card is included in TANDBERG's new EN5930 MPEG-4 part 10 advanced video encoder.

At NAB2004 (booth #S87455) TANDBERG TV will introduce the Intelligent Compression Engine (ICE), a highly flexible platform for MPEG-4 part 10 and Windows Media 9 Series encoding.

Telcos, broadcasters, and cable and satellite network operators can significantly benefit from the bandwidth and efficiency savings realized by squeezing more channels, and generating more revenue, into the available bandwidth.

TANDBERG's ICE is based on the company's seventh generation encoding technology, resulting from years of video compression experience. It's a sophisticated video and audio compression platform that provides a flexible and upgradeable solution for high-quality implementations of Windows Media 9 Series and MPEG-4 part 10 (H.264/AVC) technologies.

The ICE card is included in TANDBERG's new EN5930 MPEG-4 part 10 advanced video encoder, which will be launched at NAB and the company's EN5920, a dedicated hardware platform for Windows Media 9. It can also be inserted into the E5710 MPEG-2 encoder to enable customers to move to either Windows Media 9 video and audio, or MPEG-4 part 10 by upgrading existing equipment. An HD version of ICE is also being developed to enable conversion of MPEG-2 HD encoders to support the new advanced encoding techniques. In addition, users can switch between MPEG-4 part 10 and Windows Media 9 Series with a simple software change.
