NCTC Adopts OpenStream Digital Services Platform

The National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) recently announced that it signed a multiyear agreement to use N2 Broadband's OpenStream technology for it on-demand playback platform. NCTC, which represents 6,500 small- to mid-size cable TV operators, already has a handful of members using OpenStream technology; the system will now be available to serve the cooperative's 15 million subscribers.

OpenStream is a scalable system that supports both large and small cable TV networks. The technology has a real-time two-way billing interface and an open reporting structure that lets operators view and control their on-demand network. Set-top boxes from Motorola and Scientific-Atlanta are supported by OpenStream.

The Atlanta-based N2 Broadband is a supplier of "middleware" products to enable video-on-demand and other consumer-driven cable TV content.
