LodgeNet Entertainment has signed a new multiyear licensing agreement with NBC Universal in a content distribution arrangement that will include film titles from Universal Studios, for LodgeNet's platform, sigNETure HDTV.
Nearly two million guest rooms will be directly affected by LodgeNet's HD VOD systems, which will be equipped with the firm's proprietary media playback controls for pause, skip and save (similar to online bookmarking) flexibility, the company said.
Universal said it plans to earmark some of its most successful titles for "hotel release" in HD via LodgeNet's infrastructure during the upcoming summer travel season. LodgeNet, based in Sioux Falls, S.D., said it currently serves about 1.8 million hotel rooms at 9,300 properties worldwide (in addition to healthcare facilities throughout the United States).
