NBC Launches Digital Weather Channel

Time Warner Cable in New York was the first to roll out NBC's new all-weather channel, called Weather Plus. The cable company has the channel on its digital tier as of Nov. 15. The service is being provided to Time Warner by WNBC, the network O&O station in New York.

Weather Plus is a national 24-hour service that puts a local slant on weather and competes with the Weather Channel. NBC officials had no comment regarding other outlets for Weather Plus but the network is expected to name more participants shortly. With a national network of local broadcasters, NBC is expected to leverage the local weather capability at its affiliates to mix national and local weather.
