MobiTV adds music videos from Sony BMG to mobile TV service

MobiTV this month put into rotation more than 2500 music videos from the Sony BMG Music Entertainment library, giving subscribers access to more than 7000 videos when combined with those already available on the company’s existing branded music channels.

Sony BMG and MobiTV are also collaborating on the creation of a series of customized channels featuring original video programming, the first of which is “Avril TV,” dedicated to artist Avril Lavigne. The site, fully supported by advertising from the CBS TV network, provides access to Lavigne’s entire video library, along with her biography, a photo gallery, links to buy ringtones, screensavers and made-for-mobile versions of Avril’s “Make 5 Wishes” comic book. The content is available through participating U.S. carriers via video-enabled phones, with a limited content package available to WAP-enabled phone users.

Subscribers can access Avril TV by going to the Avril TV WAP site on their cell phones. The link to the WAP site is available through Avril's Web site and MySpace page. It is distributed via SMS and e-mail blast.

MobiTV is one of the few mobile TV services with the rights to stream full-length music videos from most of the major labels. As opposed to mobile offerings requiring a user to purchase access to each video, MobiTV subscribers have unlimited access to music videos for no extra charge beyond the monthly subscription fee.
