Mediacom selects For-A Virtual studio for cost-effective studio production

In these trying economic times, even the eighth largest cable operator in the country has to watch its budget. That’s why as Mediacom, which passes approximately 2.7 million homes in 23 states, purchased a For-A digiWarp-EX II virtual studio system for its largest production facility in Des Moines, Iowa.

For-A’s digiWarp-EX II, is the newly enhanced version of the digiWarp EX, a 2D virtual set system that works on the Microsoft Windows NT platform.

“The technology makes a lot of sense for us,” said Cecil Van Houten, production manager for the Des Moines facility. “We will use the variety of pre-built virtual sets, which gives us multi-camera capability and terrific 3-D features, and we can change and tweak the sets in the computer with software programs to modify and tailor the virtual backgrounds with a distinct style that’s unique to each individual show. It’s very powerful stuff.”

The digiWarp-EX II virtual studio system is currently installed in a 35 x 40-foot sound stage within Mediacom’s three-story facility in Des Moines. Capable of delivering an unlimited variety of production designs, the FOR-A digiWarp-EX II system is being used with three Ikegami standard-definition digital cameras to deliver photo-realistic, high-quality imagery.

For-A’s digiWarp-EX II, is the newly enhanced version of the digiWarp EX, a 2D virtual set system that works on the Microsoft Windows NT platform. With digiWarp-EX II, backgrounds can be created from 2D or 3D computer graphics, photo library CD images or images captured with a digital video camera.

The 2D studio system comes in two versions: digiWarp EX, which includes a switcher with a chroma keyer module and DVE, a hardware-based image processor, and a controller with software; and digiWarp-EX II, that features all those components but substitutes a software-based image processor and adds the second video wall.
