Mediacom Communications Corp. and Starz Encore Group made an affiliation and carriage agreement that adds the Starz! HD and Starz! On Demand movie channels to Mediacom's digital cable service. Robert B. Clasen, president of sales and marketing for Starz, said customers will be enticed to upgrade to digital by the amount and quality of the on-demand films. Mediacom will offer up to 20 Starz movie channels, the Starz On Demand SVOD service and one digital set-top box and remote. Customers will be able to watch the films as many times as they like, with fast-forward, pause and rewind capabilities at no extra charge.
Beginning in May, Mediacom plans to launch the Starz package in all its systems, with HD and SVOD services in systems with such capabilities. As other Mediacom systems become HD- and SVOD-enabled, the services will be rolled out in those markets.
