MAYAH makes network rock

German public broadcaster SWR3 made use of a pair of MAYAH IO [io] 8001 for live video networking over WLAN/Wi-Fi during Germany's biggest live rock festival, Rock am Ring.

MTV Germany's TV production unit provided extensive reports and live transmissions from the main stage, while the regional public broadcaster SWR3 was entirely responsible for the 'Alterna Stage'.

Staying at the production facility of the 'Alterna Stage" the journalists of SWR still required a real-time access to the sound and picture from the main stage for their reports and organization. So an extremely cost-efficient solution of transmitting audio and video as one IP stream over a broadband wireless data connection for monitoring purposes was quite successful on site.

The Rock am Ring festival is an annual event and takes place at the Nürburger Ring which is one of two Formula 1 races tracks in Germany. This year Rock am Ring gathered 85.000 visitors and 98 bands including Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, The Offspring, Die Toten Hosen, Motörhead, The Prodigy, and Bad Religion.
