Luminis Playout, a Hungarian company that provides technical services to the IKO Media Group, is using Jünger Audio’s Level Magic technology to provide an enhanced listening experience to IKO TV viewers in Central Europe.
Hungarian production and new media company IKO currently owns 6 percent of M-RTL, one of Hungary’s largest commercial TV stations, broadcasting under the name RTL Klub. The broadcaster has 20 channels reaching viewers in eight countries across the region.
Luminis manages the technical facility for the playout of 15 of these channels, including six sports channels, two documentary channels and seven feature film and series channels.
According to IKO Luminis Playout chief engineer Tamás Csikós, RTL broadcasts in several different languages, including Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, Croatian and Czech. One sports channel even features multiaudio with parallel Romanian and Hungarian commentary. RTL’s documentary channels have three parallel audio streams and DVB subtitling.
Luminis Playout installed Jünger Audio Level Magic C8000 series units in 2006 to balance audio from these different audio sources and gradually expanded the system to the point that it now uses Level Magic audio processing across its entire transmission chain for all 15 channels, Csikós said.
Jünger Audio’s Level Magic is an adaptive-level control algorithm designed to adjust the level from any source at any time, with no pumping, breathing or distortion. It is based on a combination of an AGC, a transient processor and a look-ahead peak limiter.
