Launch of MobileVision to put sports video, entertainment into hands of mobile users

The day when sports fans can follow the action of their favorite team on the screens of their cell phones and mobile computing devices is likely to have gotten a little closer due to the launch of a new service that provides an end-to-end solution for managing, creating and delivering digital video content to mobile users.

MobileVision, a venture of Microsoft, TWI Interactive (TWIi) and Vidiator Technology, is a series of tools wireless operators and content providers can use to deploy a mobile video service and keep it operating.

Rights holders, network operators and content and application service providers can use MobileVision to manage integrated content, transcode, stream material, bill and provide customer care.

Through Vidiator’s adaptive transcoding and delivery technology, MobileVision is optimized for Microsoft Windows Media 9 Series and for the 3GPP formats and protocols. Mobile users with handsets running Windows or non-Windows operating systems will be able to use services from providers using MobileVision.

For sports video production companies, MobileVision represents another distribution vehicle for content. At its launch, MobileVision is offering service providers an option that includes sports and entertainment programming as a turnkey package.

"Consumers have come to expect access to compelling content from a number of different types of devices, whenever and wherever they want it," said Microsoft corporate vice president of the Windows Digital Media Division Amir Majidimehr.
