L-3 releases modified Constant Efficiency Amplifier, CEA 80

L-3 has unveiled a modified version of its breakthrough Constant Efficiency Amplifier tube for use in analog transmitters to improve efficiency over standard IOTs.

The new device is currently available and has been fully tested in analog service. It will work in common mode, the most preferred method of transmission, with performance equal to an IOT in gain, linearity and sync compression.

The CEA 80 is capable of 55 percent efficiency in analog service, nearly 40 percent greater than typical IOTs.

L-3 also will roll out its "Made-in-USA" circuit assemblies for CEA and IOT tubes. L-3 is now manufacturing the circuit assemblies and magnet carts used for its line of CEA and IOT transmitter tubes. The input cavity has been substantially redesigned to improve reliability and performance, and system gain and input VSWR have been optimized. Input and output assemblies can be supplied separately. The cavities are compatible with most build-up style tubes.
