KWY-TV Deploys Front Porch Content Management in New HD Operation

Philadelphia’s KYW-TV is using Front Porch Digital’s DIVArchive in connection with content storage management and DIVAdirector for retrieval of clips from desktop editing stations at the station’s new high-definition facility.

The new 120,000-square-foot facility includes two television studios, a modern master control facility, an operations center for satellite feed ingest and an outdoor weather “deck” for weather reporting. KYW is telecasting both studio and field news reporting in high definition.

“KYW-TV has always had a reputation for being in the vanguard of technology, so I was pleased to participate in the build of the HD station,” said Rich Paleski, director of the station’s operations and engineering. “Because we were building an all new facility, we had the chance to do things right, abandon the old SD model of workflow and storage in favor of a model that would accommodate the information density of HD and grow with us.”

The station’s news operation is completely tapeless. Archiving of content is done on digital tape.
