KELO-TV Installs New Weather Radar System
By TVTechnology published
KELO, the CBS television affiliate in Sioux Falls, S.D., has recently replaced one of their three existing Doppler radar units with a Baron Services Guardian megawatt dual-polarized system. The installation is the first one in the upper Midwest for the new product, and the seventh in the nation.
"The dual-polarization of Keloland Live Doppler HD is just the latest update to what has been a strong dedication to radar technology," said Jay Trobec, KELO chief meteorologist.
The Guardian weather radar system produces both horizontally and vertically polarized beams, which provides greater resolution and makes precipitation types easier to identify by weathercasters. The system is also the most powerful that Baron Services provides, with a power output of 1 million watts.
