JVC ProHD Ships to Scripps Stations

The Scripps Television Station Group has tapped JVC to provide its 10 stations with its ProHD cameras and accessories as one of the first stages in converting the group's broadcasters to local HD.

Scripps plans to buy 150 GY-HD250 ProHD camcorders, 150 BR-HD50 ProHD recorder/players, and 300 DR-HD10060G HD hard-disc recorders, along with about 100 monitors.

Last fall, JVC had equipped WXYZ-TV, the Scripps ABC affiliate in Detroit, with a few of its JVC GY-HD250 units, according to JVC. WXYZ-TV upgraded its local news coverage to HD last October.

Besides its Detroit outlet, the Scripps stations to be upgraded include:

• KNXV-TV, Phoenix
• WFTS-TV, Tampa, Fla.
• WMAR-TV, Baltimore
• WCPO-TV, Cincinnati
• WEWS-TV, Cleveland
• WPTV-TV, West Palm Beach, Fla.
• WSHB-TV, Kansas City, Mo.
• KJRH-TV, Tulsa, Okla.
• KMCI-TV, Lawrence, Kan.
