JVC and Walgreens each install HDTV billboards in Times Square

JVC has installed a new HD LED billboard in New York City’s Times Square. It follows a 30-story, LED-based Walgreen’s electronic billboard atop its new flagship store at One Times Square.

JVC’s screen, measuring 19ft by 34ft, is said to be the first 720-line-progressive display in Times Square. It has a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio and 1280 x 720 resolution delivered by 1007 LED modules.

The JVC unit weighs 12,500lbs and links to more than 3000ft of data cables. Each video module measures 15in by 15in and 3.25in wide by 40in high and delivers HD content at 60fps.

Both the Walgreen and JVC billboards were manufactured by Clear Channel Spectacolor, using D3 LED LLC as the LED display manufacturer.
