IEEE Broadcast Technology Symposium

Registration is now open for the 55th Annual IEEE Broadcast Symposium. As in past years, attendees will find sessions dealing with a wide range of broadcast engineering topics. Sessions scheduled will cover mobile and multimedia broadcasting, technical regulatory issues, audio broadcasting, DTV system performance and measurements, satellite broadcasting and distributed transmission. The Symposium takes place Oct. 12-14 at the Hotel Washington in Washington, D.C.

Some of the presentation topics attracting my attention include the emergence of broadcasting to mobile devices using DVB-H (Don Shaver), a discussion of digital ENG regulatory issues (Andy Bater) and a tutorial on DTV measurements (Gary Sgrignoli). Many parameters have to be considered when designing distributed transmission systems. Two papers are being presented in this area--one on adjacent channel operation (Merrill Weiss) and another on areas of co-channel interference and multipath created by 8-VSB distributed transmitters in flat terrain (Oded Bendov).
