Hitachi unveils terabyte DVD recorder

Japan’s Hitachi unveiled a hard disk drive/DVD recorder that can store 1TB of data, or enough to record about 128 hours of high-definition digital broadcasting.

Hitachi’s new line-up also includes models able to store 160GB, 250GB and 500GB of data. The new models can simultaneously record two high-definition programs.

The recorders will go on sale in Japan next month. Hitachi does not have plans for launching the products in the overseas markets, explaining that consumers in the United States and Europe are not as interested in high-end recorders.
