Harris Broadcast Adds Fifth Business Unit ...

The creation of a new business unit this week within the Broadcast Communications Division of Harris gives some insight into how the company will be positioning itself in coming months.

The new unit will focus on software systems and, Harris says, help it absorb Encoda Systems, which it bought last fall.

John Sorensen, former CEO of Encoda, is president of the unit. He described Harris Broadcast as expanding from a "hardware-focused, transmission system provider to a provider of integrated workflow solutions that are applicable to broadband, advertising, digital asset management, automation and 'back office' technology."

Software Systems becomes the fifth business unit of Harris Broadcast Communications; the others are Radio Broadcast Systems, Television Broadcast Systems, Networking and Government Solutions and Broadcast Systems Europe.

The move targets broadcast as well as cable, satellite service providers, ad agencies, media rep firms and other businesses. "Harris will be able to offer end-to-end content delivery solutions across the distinct phases of content creation, distribution and transmission," it stated.

Harris Broadcast President/GM Jeremy Wensinger made the announcement.
