France's Canal+ Deploys Pinnacle Servers
By TVTechnology published
In an effort to support increased customer demand, French pay television provider Group Canal+ selected Pinnacle's Palladium-based MediaStream 900 networked storage servers for its 24/7 delivery of four Premium Canal+, one Sports+ and 14 pay-per-view Kiosk Cinema channels. MediaStream servers use decoders from which channels can be switched between SD and HD. The system also is comprised of Pinnacle's Palladium Store 1000 (shared storage); Memory Long Term archive management software; SGT automation and asset management system; and Palladium Exchange gateway, which enables the import and export of files from third parties for improved resource transfer between disparate parts of Canal+.
Pinnacle is managing the overhaul of the Canal+ master control infrastructure, replacing it with centralized distribution operations that eliminate tape-based operations and enable the sharing of resources and content amongst channels. Canal+ will be able to adapt its infrastructure in the future to support the addition of new channels.
