Fox affiliate WGHP-TV channel 8, serving the Greensboro, High Point and Winston Salem, N.C. areas recently installed Adtec's edje-2110-2 SDI encoder. The encoder supports two Dolby Digital audio channels and encodes Serial Digital video with embedded AES-EDU in real time and sends an MPEG 2 transport stream to the cable headend and digital transmitter.
"In addition to providing an analog signal, it also allowed a path for our separate HDTV digital signal to ride along the fiber to the cable headend," said Charles Lanyo, WGHP's transmitter supervisor. "We also wanted a backup SD encoder for our digital station if we had a failure of the main HD encoder."
Nashville, Tenn.-based Adtec makes MPEG-2 based digital video players, single channel commercial insertion controllers and automated video control systems.
