Florida Channel Adopts New Monitor Technology

The Florida Channel, which provides Florida state legislature coverage, has revamped its control room with Plura Broadcast LCD monitors.

The conversion took place in two “installments,” with initial replacement of monitors for TD and director positions happening last summer. According to Terry Longorado, chief engineer of The Florida Channel, the results were so pleasing that additional monitors were upgraded in November.

The Florida Channel selected Plura Broadcast 17-inch and 20-inch models for the retrofit, purchasing them through Command Corp., a systems integration firm based in Clearwater, Fla.

“The Florida Channel needed something in place to accurately accommodate their 4:3 signals, but also gave them the upgrade path to go 16:9 or HD in the future” said Michael Smith, president of Command.

Longorado said that chief considerations in monitor selection were image quality, reliability and price.

The Florida Channel is based in Tallahassee and operates under the auspices of Florida State University’s WFSU-TV.
