FCC Extends Comment Dates in Advanced Wireless Services Rulemaking

Acting on requests filed by CTIA and TerreStar Networks, Inc., the FCC has extended the deadline for comments in the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) issued Sept. 24, 2004 addressing service rules for Advanced Wireless Services in the 1915-1920 MHz, 1995-2000 MHz, 2020-2025 MHz and 2175-2180 MHz bands. The deadlines, originally set for Nov. 23, 2004 for comments and Jan. 7, 2005 for reply-comments, have been extended to Dec. 8, 2004 and Jan. 24, 2005, respectively.

CTIA and TerreStar Networks requested the extension to allow time to complete the technical analysis necessary to address interference concerns in the 1915-1920 MHz and 1995-2000 MHz bands. The FCC Order announcing the extension said, "We find that it is in the interest of compiling a complete record to briefly extend the comment period to enable interested parties sufficient time to complete testing and to analyze the many important issues raised in the NPRM with the benefit of test results."
