FCC chairman announces managing director, general counsel

The new chairman of the FCC this week began putting his team in place with the naming of Austin Schlick as general counsel and Steven VanRoekel as managing director.

In announcing the appointments, FCC chairman Julius Genachowski said the pair possess “superb management and legal talents” that will be helpful to the agency.

VanRoekel joins the FCC with more than 18 years of experience in the area of information technology. Most recently, he was a senior executive in the Windows Server and Tools division at Microsoft.

Schlick, who once served as the FCC’s deputy general counsel for litigation and as acting general counsel, most recently has served as the chief of the civil division of the office of the Maryland attorney general.
