EVS serves up HD for Russia’s RTR Sport

With the help of system integrator Qualitron Oy, RTR Sport, part of the All-Russia State TV and Radio Company, is installing EVS servers to equip its new HD broadcasting facility in time to cover the Olympics in Beijing.

This year, dedicated Russian coverage of the games will be provided across the country in HD, so the redesign will include the installation of 16:9 HD video and 5.1 audio systems capable of producing and handling HD feeds.

RTR has been working with tapeless technology for some time and recognized that the adoption of a longer-term storage system (digital archive) was of the utmost importance for the new sports production room.

The first phase of the new HD project will focus on building refurbishment and will be followed by an overall system and workflow redesign of RTR’s production facilities and 24/7 playout facilities. And Qualitron Oy will implement a new mobile set for RTR’s outside broadcast operations, specifically for the Olympics.

EVS XT[2] production servers managed by the EVS IPDirector suite and several LSM applications will be installed at RTR Sport’s headquarters in Moscow, where all ingest of replays and highlights will be coordinated and recorded. The servers will work in tandem with EVS XStore[2] media servers in a storage area network (SAN) architecture, using the format-independent EVS CleanEdit suite.

CleanEdit will allow wide access to selected XT[2] content, using proxy management, and also support all ENG (acquired with Sony XDCAM HD cameras) and near- and offline content (coming from the servers) for the mobile set and tape library — via Front Porch DIVArchive integration — for the sport room.
