E-N-G Mobile System van hits the road to show viability of HD field reporting

E-N-G Mobile Systems has begun a U.S. tour of industry expositions with its first electronic newsgathering (ENG) van built for high-definition acquisition and transmission.

As local acquisition of HD gets off the ground, ENG will be among the areas of operation that stations must address. The live news van will tour the country demonstrating the viability of doing live HD shots at venues like regional Society of Broadcast Engineers conferences.

The news van will use the JVC Professional Products DM-JV600U and DM-D4600U(c) MPEG-2 encoder and decoder to make doing live, remote HD broadcasts practical.

It will show the encoder and decoder working with BMS' TruckCoder II (TCII) COFDM transmitter and integrated receiver decoder (IRD). The DM-JV600U is a multiformat 4:2:0/4:2:2 HDTV encoder with Dolby audio pass-through that offers compatibility with multiple analog and digital microwave radio systems.
