DTV Sales Break 5M Barrier
By TVTechnology published
According to CEA announced that cumulative factory-to-dealer unit sales (integrated sets and displays) of DTV products passed the 5 million mark in February. Since product introduction in the fourth quarter of 1998, DTV sales figures stand at 5,139,775 units, worth $9.2 billion.
Though the CEA is pleased with the numbers, it's apparent that the organization feels more should be done, including the FCC's passage of the "plug-and-play" deal. In addition, "broadcasters must commit not only to getting on-air in digital, but to doing so at full power," said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA. "...Only 780 of the 1,304 commercial broadcast stations in the country are on-air in digital."
February unit sales for DTV products were 241,279, worth $409,173,189.
