Detroit's WXYZ Taps JVC HD Cams for ENG

WXYZ-TV, the ABC affiliate in Detroit, will use five JVC GY-HD250U Pro HD cameras for its new HD-level ENG news production in the field. The broadcaster began upgrading local coverage to 720p earlier in the fall, thus becoming the first station in Michigan to commence local newscasts in HD.

The station's first use of the GY-HD250 came during coverage of the general elections in November. The portable cameras from JVC were used both for field work and in an auxiliary studio scenario at the station, and linked to WXYZ-TV's election night command center--switching between main and auxiliary studios as coverage warranted.

The Scripps Howard flagship station said it believes it is one of the first local broadcasters in America to use JVC's GY-HD250U units in both ENG and studio environs.
