Crawford Video brings college football in 3-D to theaters

Crawford’s Transportable Earth Station (TES) division helped deliver the FedEx BCS National Championship college football game to theaters across the country in 3-D HD Jan. 8.

In addition to Crawford’s support, 3-D specialist 3ality Digital partnered with FOX Sports, Sony and Cinedigm Digital Cinema to bring the game to more than 80 theaters across 35 states. Crawford’s TES engineers worked closely with 3ality Digital to provide satellite transmission and HD encoding for the 3-D HD productions.

Crawford’s HD-capable satellite uplink trucks with a 2-D infrastructure combine seamlessly with 3ality Digital’s stereoscopic 3-D image capture and processing technology.

The company also transmitted 3ality Digital’s first 3-D HD football game for the NFL, the Oakland Raiders vs. the San Diego Chargers, in December from QUALCOMM Stadium. Broadcast live, this event was experienced by hundreds in three Real D-enabled theaters in Boston, Los Angeles and New York City.
