Cox launches VOD services with Concurrent's 4G MediaHawk platform

Concurrent Computer, a specialist in on-demand video technology, has announced the launch of video-on-demand (VOD) services on Cox Communications’ cable systems in New Orleans and Omaha.

Cox is using Concurrent’s 4th Generation (4G) MediaHawk On-Demand platform to power the VOD services over its Motorola-based cable systems. The system can be used for Movies-On-Demand (MOD), Subscription VOD (SVOD), Free-On-Demand (FOD), Long-Format Advertising (LFA), network-basked Digital Video Recording (NDVR) and high-definition VOD (HDVOD).

“Concurrent’s MediaHawk Platform complements not only our needs with regards to architecture compatibility and the highest technology standards, but also our customers’ desires for more programming when they want to watch it,” said John Hildebrand, Cox Communications’ vice president of multimedia technology.

Steve Necessary, president of Concurrent’s VOD division, said, “With our latest 4th generation MediaHawk On-Demand platform, we are providing our customers with a superior modular architecture that can grow as their systems grow, in support of increasing amounts of content as well as the constantly expanding spectrum of on-demand applications. Our platform gives our customers the tools they need to effectively manage an ‘Everything-On-Demand’ future.”
