Contemporary Research, Visual Circuits partner for lower-cost digital media server capabilities

Contemporary Research solution uses Visual Circuits Firefly multichannel digital video player to narrowcast over a facility-wide network of TVs, projectors and large-screen displays.

Working in concert with Minneapolis-based Visual Circuits, Contemporary Research of Dallas has announced the addition of digital media server capabilities to its iC-Net educational and commercial solutions. The Visual Circuits Firefly MC (multichannel) digital video player will decode digital media to RF modulators, broadcasting over a facility-wide CATV network as a TV channel. The iC-Net technology enables two-way selection and control of media by networking TVs, video projectors, large-screen displays and user remotes over the same CATV system. Because video and control are distributed over existing RF cable systems, no additional wiring is required. In addition, broadcasting full-screen digital media over the CATV systems does not affect the site’s computer network bandwidth.

According to the companies’ joint statement, the digital media server solution can reduce the cost of distributing content in commercial signage applications and is particularly useful for educational institutions.
