Concurrent Invests in Thirdspace

VOD provider Concurrent Computer Corp. has strengthened its business ties to software provider Thirdspace Living Limited by forming a strategic alliance and investing an additional $16 million dollars, along with DSL infrastructure provider Alcatel, in the company.

Thirdspace provides video server software, advanced broadband applications and integration services. The combination of its products and services allows DSL service providers to deliver TV and video over existing copper.

The alliance will allow the two companies to jointly develop and market an integrated, end-to-end system that will enable broadband telecommunications carriers to provide broadcast television, iTV and VOD services to DSL subscribers. The system will combine Concurrent's MediaHawk Video Server and Thirdspace's OVS Open Video Server software and Application Server software. The system will be offered to Alcatel, which has a large base of DSL subscribers. Additionally, as part of Concurrent's investment, it received licenses to Thirdspace's
patents and patent applications.
