Comcast to Debut 'Twilight' in HD

At a second past midnight this Friday night (technically, March 21), tens of thousands of camped-out fans of the movie "Twilight" are expected to stage a run on their local book or video outlet to purchase the Blu-ray Disc or DVD of the popular title.

Comcast says it has a better idea: Within the same minute, it will offer its VOD subs via its "On Demand" service the chance to view the movie in HD in the comfort of their living rooms. The VOD title will become accessible promptly at 12:01 a.m. local time on Saturday.

In addition to the same-day release, the Philadelphia-based cable company—the largest TV service provider in the country with more than 24 million subs—said it will also offer three behind-the-scenes featurettes, including one exclusive to Comcast VOD customers. That feature content became available today (March 18).

"Twilight," based on a series of bestselling novels geared to girls and young women, will be available via Comcast's On Demand service under the "Movies & Events" folder in "All New Releases."

Comcast charges $6 for a HD VOD title: $5 for SD viewing.

There is one big catch, of course: You need to be a Comcast customer (or at least know one well enough to share their living room at midnight).
