Centauri II Used to Cover G8 Summit

More than 50 Mayah Centauri II codecs were used by the German national public broadcasters associations ARD and ZDF for a live transmission from the G8 Summit in Heiligendamm, Germany.

ARD managed the international sound and picture delivery, while ZDF oversaw the German program for its own TV channel and other signal recipients in Germany. ZDF also provided an entire technical base for the production.

The codecs were chosen for audio transmissions from the main program sound to technical and editorial communication. Most of the codecs — already owned or rented for the production by ZDF — were used within ZDF's mobile compound in Kühlungsborn, about 5 kilometres from the main summit location.

Fifteen Centauri IIs in Mainz were responsible for communication between the main studio and the mobile groups; six were installed directly on location in Heiligendamm. Several other units were distributed among nearby locations.
