CCTV dispatches SNG resources to cover Sichuan quake aftermath

China Central TV (CCTV) has deployed one of its C-COM Satellite Systems iNetVu Mobile antenna systems for satellite newsgathering (SNG) coverage of the rescue and recovery efforts for the victims of the earthquake May 12 in Sichuan province.

The quake, which registered 8.0 on the Richter scale has killed more than 65,000 people, injured more than 360,000 and left more than 23,000 missing as of May 26, according to China’s Information Office of the State Council. Since the quake, the area has received more than 100 aftershocks.

The SNG unit is delivering SD television directly from the disaster area to CCTV viewers as well as to Internet users in China. The iNetVu Mobile antenna system in use has the flexibility to deliver live broadcasts from hard-to-reach earthquake locations.

Emergency response teams also are relying on a number of C-COM iNetVu Mobile antenna systems for communications to coordinate their efforts.
