CCTV chooses GlobeCast for DTH in Europe

As of March 17th the Peoples' Republic of China's national broadcaster’s English-language CCTV-9 channel is now available to 1.2 million TPS subscribers in France and 6.3 million Sky Digital subscribers in the UK and Ireland.

GlobeCast, a France Telecom subsidiary, provides satellite transmission and production services for professional broadcast, enterprise multimedia and Internet content delivery. GlobeCast's digital DTH platforms on HOT BIRD and EUROBIRD offer CCTV-9 access to more than 1.2 million TPS subscribers in France as well as 6.3 million Sky Digital subscribers across the UK and Ireland.

CCTV-9 is uplinked from Beijing to PAS10 and is downlinked at GlobeCast's Paris teleport. From Paris, the signal is simultaneously uplinked to GlobeCast's TPS platform on HOT BIRD and delivered to GlobeCast's London teleport via its proprietary ATM fiber link where it is uplinked onto GlobeCast's digital DTH EUROBIRD platform. GlobeCast is providing the Chinese network with 24/7 end-to-end channel distribution, including backhaul, signal turnaround, multiplex, uplinking and monitoring.

CCTV is the Peoples' Republic of China's national broadcaster. CCTV-9 was the first Chinese TV network to broadcast in a foreign language. The full-service network broadcasts 24/7 and its programs are dubbed or subtitled into English.
