CBS to launch outdoor advertising, wireless promo

CBS has announced plans for the first-ever network TV marketing initiative that combines outdoor advertising with wireless distribution.

Beginning this month, mobile users in New York City can download free clips of the network’s new primetime line-up directly from CBS outdoor billboard locations via MobiZone, created by Kameleon Technologies.

The billboards, which will be located in Grand Central Station, will let mobile users watch a clip from a new CBS prime-time series. Once users choose to activate a cell phone or PDA, the clip can automatically be downloaded via Bluetooth connectivity and played on the screen of their mobile devices.

Downloads from the network’s four new primetime series, including “Shark, “Smith,” “Jericho” and “The Class,” as well as “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” can be played almost instantly. The clips can then be saved or passed on to family and friends.
