Canada: Gennum Awarded Technical Emmy for HD Chip

Gennum Corp. of Burlington, Ontario, has been recognized with a Technical Emmy Award for its technology that helps local broadcasters transmit HD signals.

Gennum's chipset Serial Digital Interface (SDI) technology permits stations to transmit uncompressed, unencrypted digital signals quickly within their respective production facilities. The firm's SDIs are found today in studio cameras, monitors, mixers and recorders.

Gennum said it is being recognized for foreseeing the need to improve transfer speeds of huge amounts of data at the station level in order to allow HD to become accepted as new digital standards.

The Technical Emmy Awards ceremony will be held at CES2007 in January in Las Vegas. The complete list of 2007 technical winners is available online at www.emmyonline.org.
