BSkyB Selects Tandberg for New Tech Center

UK satbroadcaster BskyB has bought a range of digital compression systems from Tandberg Television to outfit its new Advanced Technology Center, which is being constructed to supplement its existing broadcast facilities.

As part of the contract, BSkyB will debut a Tandberg MPEG-2 head-end installation with 16 compression systems; each system will contain Tandberg E5710 encoders, MX5640 mulitplexers and TT1220 receivers, as well as control and monitoring.

The companies have worked together in the past on digital pay-TV satellite technologies and services, and BSkyB was an early adopter of Tandberg's MPEG-2 encoders during the 1990s.
