WiQuest Introduces Gigabit UWB Chipset

Fabless semiconductor company WiQuest Communications announced immediate availability of its WQST110 and WQWT101 chipset, which it claimed was "the industry's first commercially-available, high-performance silicon delivering wireless communication speeds up to one gigabit-per-second." The chipset is based on the WiMedia MB-OFDM standard (see Ecma Adopts WIMedia Alliance/ECMA UWB standard elsewhere in this week's RF Report).

The WQST110 combines the baseband PHY layer, the MAC engine, a high-speed security processor, a quality of service manager and a variety of host interfaces in one integrated design. The chipset includes a complete high-speed USB subsystem, eliminating the need for additional USB interface components.

"We are extremely pleased with the strong customer and industry response to our first UWB product design," said Dr. Matthew Shoemake, founder of WiQuest. Due to its advanced architecture, capabilities and features, we are experiencing significant demand for our WQST110/101 chipset in a wide variety of applications."
