BMX bicycle races streamed live with NewTek TriCaster

The American Bicycle Association (ABA) will use NewTek's TriCasterPRO to stream multicamera, live video of its 27 National BMX Series events on ABABMX.TV. The ABA is the largest sanctioning body in the United States for bicycle motocross sports and has reported an expanding online audience that reaches into the hundreds of thousands on race days.

TriCasterPRO is a portable, live production suite with a comprehensive toolset designed to facilitate live production and stream professional, multicamera video via Internet.

Representing 60,000 active members and 274 racing facilities, the ABA organizes BMX racing for boys, girls and adults in the U.S. and Canada. ABABMX.TV was created when the ABA joined forces this year with BMXTVDIRECT.COM. The Web site is a division of Lillethorup Productions, an Omaha, NB-based video production company that has supported BMX events for more than 25 years.

In the average ABA National race weekend, between 150 and 300 motocross races and more than 100 main events with 1000 to 2500 racers are covered. Tim Lillethorup, president of Lillethorup Productions, said the portability of the TriCaster — about 10lbs and less than 1 cubic foot — allowed his team to focus on the production instead of setting up racks of expensive gear.

TriCasterPRO features virtual VCR cues of digital video clips and plays them back the instantly; integrated real-time video editing that allows for on-site changes and client approvals; composite, S-video or component output; simultaneous output to video, Internet and projector; and the ability to archive presentations to hard drive.
