Avid ships latest versions of Unity storage systems

Avid has begun shipping its new Unity shared-storage solutions, including the Unity LANshare 4.2, Unity MediaNetwork 4.2 and Unity ISIS 1.1 systems.

The Unity family supports Avid Interplay, a nonlinear workflow engine scheduled to ship in the third quarter of 2006 and the company’s Open Storage Initiative (OSI), which lets users run any third party Mac OS X or Windows XP content creation system, including nonlinear editing, compositing, 3-D animation and scriptwriting tools, on Avid shared storage.

The new Unity systems offer file system innovations to deliver increased performance and 500GB drives to boost overall capacity. Highlights include:

  • Unity LANshare system version 4.2 provides turnkey real-time collaboration with up to 8TB of storage using the new LANserver LP (Low Profile), an integrated storage and server device with 16-drives in a three-rack unit size.
  • Unity MediaNetwork system version 4.2 offers up to 40TB of storage using the new three-rack unit MEDIArray LP array with 4Gb Fibre Channel connectivity.
  • Avid Unity ISIS system version 1.1delivers up to 192TB of storage with support for 150 active users, compatibility with Mac OS X (Tiger) and Windows XP workstations.
