Avid reduces size of HD files

Avid Technology announced its new DNxHD encoding technology, which brings “uncompressed” HD editing to its entire line of non-linear edit systems, as well as the ability to share HD files across a storage area network.

An extension of Avid’s DNA accelerator hardware, DNxHD is a 10-bit encoding technology that enables collaborative HD post production using files the size of SD. The source code for Avid DNxHD will be available for free from the Avid Web site for third-party software developers.

Avid’s broadcast division introduced AirSpeed, a software-based video ingest and broadcast playback server designed to streamline the news production workflow. AirSpeed is fully compatible with Avid’s Unity for News system, as well as all Avid NLEs.
