Ascent Media builds new Milan studio for Current TV

Ascent Media Systems & Technology Services has completed the build of a new studio in Milan, Italy, for Current TV, the media company that works with its young adult audience to create and distribute media. This latest project with the broadcaster had Ascent Media designing and installing a full robotic studio system and follows other studio projects for Current TV in the United States and UK.

Ascent Media completed the prefabrication and comprehensive testing of the studio and control facilities in the UK over a period of two weeks before the kit was shipped to Milan. The Ascent team was responsible for designing a studio system that was fully capable of being controlled remotely from Current TV’s playout center in San Francisco.

Current TV’s global broadcasting infrastructure uses a hub-and-spoke control and playout model, designed by Ascent Media, where all operations can be managed centrally. From the local sites, producers are responsible for sourcing and editing content and providing playout and monitoring control as needed. The model was designed to enable on-going expansion by adding studios (or “spokes”) in each new region as the broadcaster expands its operations.
