AFA to Expand Scripps Control Room in Tennessee

Systems integrator A.F. Associates Inc. (AFA) recently won a contract to move and expand the transmission control room and monitoring system at Scripps Networks' Origination Facility in Knoxville, Tenn.

The expansion will support the increased playout capacity of the new Broadcast Operations Center system and includes a larger transmission equipment center with a control room.

AFA plans to use as much of the existing infrastructure as possible. The space previously used by Scripps' Network Operations Center control room will be converted into the new transmission control room, while the existing console will be refurbished to accommodate the new system functionality. A legacy Philips Venus routing system will be used to support monitoring activities.

AFA has designed several features to accommodate the reworking of the facility, including a new virtual monitor wall to replace the existing CRT-based monitors, and will add equipment and cabling for SDI, AES, 70 MHz and L-Band RF, analog audio, GPI and Ethernet. The virtual monitor wall will comprise three Christie Digital Display cubes in a 1 x 3 configuration, all driven by Avitech processors.
