WMAZ-TV delivers personalized weathercasts

WMAZ-TV has rolled out market-exclusive personal micro-weathercasts with MyWeather for viewers in Macon, GA.

The Gannett-owned station has branded the service 13WMAZ CustomCast and promotes itself and its new chief meteorologist by providing a free, full-featured online weather service to viewers. Patented technology used in 13WMAZ CustomCast creates ultra-accurate, hour-by-hour forecasts for any pinpoint in North America.

The new customized weathercasts allow the station to focus in on smaller segments of its viewing area to provide area-specific weathercasts that could prove to be life-saving weather information during dangerous conditions, said station president and general manager Don McGouirk.

Customized 13WMAZ CustomCast forecast pages contain a daily message from chief meteorologist Ben Jones next to hour-by-hour forecasts for viewer-specified locations. Viewers also receive customized severe weather alerts based on their criteria, such as location and type of weather event. They can also choose how to receive those alerts, via e-mail, wireless device or desktop icon.
