The Golf Channel turns to Scientific-Atlanta for digital distribution

The Golf Channel installed a Scientific-Atlanta PowerVu digital content distribution system at its Orlando, FL, headquarters to deliver digital program feeds to North America, Asia and Europe.

Each continent receives unique Golf Channel programming from a separate PowerVu encoding system. A single PowerVu Network Center manages the three encoding systems, allowing The Golf Channel's staff to monitor and control all of its digital content distribution from one site.

The digitally encoded signal for Europe goes via fiber from Orlando to Europe for retransmission. The Asia programming goes via fiber to Napa, CA, where it is uplinked over a PanAmSat PowerVu system for delivery across the Asia-Pacific region. The North American digital signal is simulcast with the analog programming using Scientific-Atlanta's side carrier feature.
